I actually had the whole weekend to myself while James was away for a friend’s bachelor party. I went out with friends on Friday night, but Saturday was all mine. No plans, no responsibilities (besides walking the dog) and no unnecessary pressures of FOMO. It was very unlike me, since I don’t usually like to be alone and I hate staying still. But it turns out that I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

I woke up on Sunday feeling extra recharged – ready to work out, get errands done and even meet a friend for brunch. Even that was delightfully slow by my standards. It made me realize how much I’ve been missing by not taking more moments to myself, for myself. Living in New York has definitely changed my weekend habits – if I’m not out exploring a new neighborhood, trying a new brunch spot or grabbing drinks with friends, then was it even a weekend at all?

Of course it is! I went into this past weekend thinking I would be lonely or bored, but I was wrong. Quality time to myself was just what the doctor ordered. I’m slowly starting to learn how to slow down – just from time to time.
